October 1, 2012

As my Grandmother always said on the first of the month – “White Rabbit” – apparently that’s supposed to bring good luck for the rest of the month – my Grandmother was usually right 🙂

Today we read two versions of Leo Tolstoy’s story The Three Questions.  The first is an English translation of his original story, the second is a children’s picture book version by Jon Muth.

We talked about the differences in the two stories, what we expected from a story written in 1885, and the genre of children’s picture books.

Before you left today you needed to complete an “exit slip” where you discussed the story, which was you favourite version, and your thoughts and reactions to the story and the three questions.

Next day we will be reading Invitations, by Carol Shields, and The Road Not Taken, by Robert Frost.  This is leading to a connections assignment that you will begin on Friday.
