For the last two classes you had the opportunity to catch up on missing assignments, finish reading the novel, and complete your final quotation response that should now be posted to your blog. The instructions for the quotation response are on my Kidblog page. Don’t forget to also comment on three of your classmates’ blog posts.
In the last week you received a list of term 3 assignments and a print-out of recorded marks so far this term. Today was the deadline for handing in those missing assignments. Don’t forget that you need to have the novel finished for Friday and your kite project is also due that day. These will be the final term 3 assignments.
Last class you worked on finishing your found poems. Remember that you are trying to use Mr. Hosseini’s words to create a poem that reflects one of three time periods in Amir’s life. Your job, as the poet, is to create the “poetic style” so that the words sound and feel like a poem you created. Your finished poems should be posted to your blog.
On Thursday you will receive a list of Term 3 assignments. I have highlighted assignments that each of you are missing. You will have until Monday, April 8th to hand in any of these missing assignments.
Here is the list of assignments:
- My Last Duchess analysis
- Poetry Project
- KR – quiz 1
- Asia map
- Exit slip – March 1
- KR – quiz 2
- KR – quiz 3
- KR – article response
- KR – Hosseini Fact Sheet
- found poem practice
- Blog – quotation response
- Blog – novel response – march 7
- found poem
Welcome back everyone! I hope your break was great. You will be surprised at how quickly these last couple of months will go, especially with graduation looming in the distance. Be sure you are keeping up to date with your assignments as TERM 3 ends in a couple of weeks.
Today we began our study of The Crucible by Arthur Miller. (although dismayed that so few of you are watching Smash, at least one person in each class knew that Arthur Miller was married to Marilyn Monroe) You have a 3-part pre-reading assignment – a copy can be found on the “Handouts” page. You will have the three periods this week for research and then we will begin reading the play next week.
I think you will find both the setting of the play, and the allegorical setting of McCarthy Era USA to be interesting. You can expect some blog commentaries during our reading of the play.
Today we had our first reading quiz for The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini. We then read chapter 5 together and completed a map of Asia so that we can better visualize the locations in the novel.
For homework I would like you to only read to the end of chapter 6 as I would like to read chapter 7 together on Monday.
The end of term 2 is fast approaching – January 27, 2012. Some of you still have not handed in both of your citation assignments (that were due before Christmas) and now you should have handed in your Author Fact Sheet and novel article response.
